The carpenter has a carpet 80 inches in length to use for throw rugs. If he makes throw rugs of lengths 55/3 in and 67/2 in, what is the length of the carpet that remains to use for other throw rugs?

First add the two "cut lengths" then subtract from the "available length".

after I added would I subtract 80/1.

You may find 480/6 more convenient, but you have the right idea.
