Posted - 01/25/2012 : 12:55:59 I have a problem with this question. Was he alive or dead in 1982? Anyway, continuing on, his age when he died must divide the year of his birth and result in 29, i.e. if he was 65 and he must have been born in 1885 (65x29=1885). But there are other possibilities:
65x29=1885 66x29=1914 67x29=1943 68x29=1972 69x29=2001
Now if you add his age to the year of his birth you get the year of his death
65+1885=1950 66+1914=1980 67+1943=2010 68+1972=2040 69+2001=2070
Now it appears that there are three possibilites (I am excluding the fourth case since he would be a child in 1982 and would have to die in 2040. Also in the case of the fifth possibility, he wasn't alive in 1982) with the first two being cases where he was already dead and the third where he was alive.
I am sure you can go from there. There is no unique solution to this problem unless he was alive in 1982.
