The use of technology in today’s classroom is important for a stronger understanding of mathematical concepts. The use of internet scavenger hunts, webquests, virtual field trips, and countless software opportunities can help to engage students more in their studies of math.
With the number of standardized tests that are recommended, and many of them required by state and federal agencies, are the questions reflecting the trend to more higher-order and deeper understanding of students’ math skills? Also, will they change the tests so that the students will need to use some technology, like the web, in order to answer the questions?
I feel that if we should be focusing our teaching of math through the use of the web and other technologies to achieve their daily work, then the tests that measure their overall educational growth (especially NCLB) need to do the same. Isn’t consistency a key to good education?
